Kate Faulkner (1841-1898). Kate was a talented artist who worked in a variety of media for Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co including wood engraving, embroidery, gesso painting, tile painting, wallpaper design, fabric design, and china painting.
Kate's brother Charles Faulkner was a friend of William Morris from their days at Oxford and he was the Faulkner in the title of the firm. Their sibling Lucy was an artist and author. As well as Peony, Kate designed Carnation and Mallow as patterns for the firm.
